Walt Hampton is a retired wildlife biologist and gunsmith and has been writing for outdoor publications since 1990. After graduating from the University of Tennessee Knoxville with a degree in wildlife biology, Walt found a position at the Virginia Game Department biologist/wildlife management as an area supervisor. He then moved on to the Department of Defense as a biologist/natural resources manager working in Texas, Virginia and North Carolina respectively (Atlantic >> Division Navy, Marine Corps, US Army). Married for 38 years and a father of two sons, Walt now works as a private consultant for wildlife biology/management as well as a freelance outdoor/gun writer and gunsmith/stockmaker/custom rifle builder. In his free time Walt enjoys adding to his growing collection of Native American artifacts, firearms, sporting books and outdoor memorabilia and spending time with his dogs.
